Planting Date and Hybrid Affect Sugarcane Aphid Infestation, Yield, and Water Use Efficiency in Dryland Grain Sorghum

چکیده
Grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) is a major dryland crop in the Texas High Plains. Currently, drought and infestation by sugarcane aphid (SCA, Melanaphis sacchari) are two challenges to grain production area. A 2-year field study was conducted investigate effect of planting date (PD) hybrid selection on yield, evapotranspiration (ET), water use efficiency (WUE), SCA infestation. Five hybrids (86P20, SP-31A15, AG1201, AG1203, DKS37-07) were grown dates (PD1—early May; PD2—late June) under conditions. Insecticides not used. There significant differences WUE, population between PDs among hybrids. For PD1, occurred after reached physiological maturity 2017. Although observed during late filling 2018, populations low did affect yield. PD2, present before anthesis both years significantly affected Even with heavy yield higher PD2 than PD1 due timely precipitation. Among hybrids, 86P20 DK37-07 performed better less PD2. more related seeds per plant kernel weight harvest index.

Multispectral remote sensing has potential to provide quick and inexpensive information on sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), pest status in sorghum fields. We describe a study conducted to determine if injury caused by sugarcane aphid to sorghum plants in fields of grain sorghum could be detected using multispectral remote sensing from a fixed wing aircraft. A study was conducted...
متن کاملImpacts of Drought Stress and Planting Methods on Sweet Corn Yield and Water Use Efficiency
Abstract Seasonal drought is the most important factor to limit the production of maize in the world. Using a split plot design, a two year field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of limited irrigation regime on yield, yield components and water use efficiency of sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata). Responses of three sweet corn varieties KSC403, Merit and Obsession to three di...

This research was conducted at the research field of West-Azerbaijan (Saatloo station, 45° 10′ 53˝ E/ 37° 44′ 18˝ N and 1338 m above sea level), located 25 km from Urmia city (Iran) during 2019-2020 cropping seasons, as a factorial layout based on randomized complete block design with three replications. The first factor was irrigation regime at three levels (supplying 100, 75 and 50% of net ir...
